Gray Wolf Hunts Planned After De-Listing

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Good news for gray wolves in the northern Rocky Mountains: you will not need the protection of Confederation. The bad news for the animals? Plans are already in the work of hunting.

“We manage a big game for the living that we are well,” said Steve Nadeau, who oversees the large carnivores from the Idaho Fish and Game Department. “The world will see, and we know it.”

Fish and Game estimates of Idaho now has 800 gray wolves. If the number of couples in Idaho race fall within one of the goals, the animals could be again under the protection of Confederation.

After a series of public screaming matches between supporters and opponents of wolf, the comments of the Idaho Fish and Game Department officials on Friday appeared largely calm both ends of the discussion.

Cal Groen, head of the division, told reporters that his agency already has the ability to contribute to the restoration and preservation of the Idaho Wolf population. “We all agree on the objectives set by the federal government,” said Groen.

But Doug Honnold, an attorney for environmental management nonprofit law firm Earth Justice, does not agree. Honnold, said the wolf population is not fully recovered and northern Idaho Rocky Mountains, until the number of animals between 2000 and 3000

“We believe that it would be a disaster,” he said. “We have a lot of time, money and effort to promote healing wolf.”

Grey Wolves have been put in danger and 1973, after nearly hunted extinction, but dramatically, the population has further efforts for the restoration began in 1995. The wolves were recently put forward by the Western Great Lakes, while the population of wolves in the Southwest remains fragile.

Wildlife biologists estimate that there are now 41 pairs of race in Idaho, in packages of 72. If the number is below 10 pairs of race, or 15 for one to three years the period of the presence of wolves could again be put under the protection of Confederation.
