Gray Wolf Off Endangered List, Hunting Allowed
DENVER (CBS4) - On Friday, the gray wolf is no longer under the protection of endangered animal species. There are also many animals that are now in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming, wolf hunting is allowed, for the first time in decades.
Earth Justice is one of a dozen environmental groups accuse now at risk for grey wolves as endangered species.
“From a scientific point of view, the wolf has not recovered,” said Robin Cooley, a lawyer Earth Justice.
Eric Keszler, a spokesman for the Wyoming Game and Fish, said the department feels like the wolves are again well in the northern Rocky Mountain region.
“There are a lot of wolves in places they have not been in a long time, so we think it is appropriate that the Auslistung at that time,” said Keszler.
But the compatibility Wyoming is “open season” to the wolves, environmental groups.
